Sutton Place |
|
One of Manhattans most prestigious addresses, this short “riv vu” extension of York Ave was developed as blocks of row houses by Effingham B. Sutton who bought the land in 1875. At this time, the banks of the East River were pocked with factories and tenements. In the 1920s, members of the Vanderbilt and Morgan haut monde discovered and recovered Effingham’s row houses, and Sutton Place’s noble lineage was launched.
